The influence of the Hand has been increasing in recent centuries, and it is feared that this house is ambitious. The cult has a strong following in the City. It holds that the God favours those who help themselves, and that worldly success is a sign of divine favour. Observances are public, usually held indoors, and comprise brisk public singing, accompanied by the playing of percussive and stringed instruments. and sermons. Members of the cult wear plain clothes generally in dark colours. The whole of the body except the face and hands must always be covered, and garments should not be designed to attract attention (except to their plainness). Priests wear plain black clothing fashioned after a style of workmens' overall now many centuries out of date.
