'windscale/lament for the sea'
watercolour on stretched paper, 20/02/84

Windscale is a nuclear power station and reprocessing plant on
the coast of Cumbria, which over the past thirty five years has
poured more than quarter of a ton of plutonium (not to mention
other poisons) into the Irish Sea. The result is that our bay
is now so contaminated that people who use boats in it (as I
do) are advised to wash all traces of silt from our boots and
clothing before going into a house.
This painting relates to the later 'dead sea'.
